Attached to our centre is an Adventure Playground, which was the original concept of our organisation today. The playground opened in 1975 and following a hard fought campaign for the permanent placement of the playground. In 1977 our campaign came to fruition and the site of the playground was given to the management committee as a permanent site.

The playground operates between Wednesday and Sunday each week with the hours changing during school holidays. The playground has annual inspections from Ofsted and meets all the criteria for provision of children’s services.

Currently the adventure playground has 300+ children registered. The average daily attendance on site is between 86 and 104 children. The staff are supplemented with around 12 volunteers who assist during opening hours each week.


The adventure playground provide chiIdren’s services on site and throughout the year through donations and fund raising. The following activities have taken place during the past 12 months:

• 3 day barge trip (2 trips over 2 weeks} which is residential for staff and children.
• Community bonfire night; WBC provide the fireworks and the staff with volunteers arrange the firework display. Last year in the region of 400+ people attended this free event.
• A trip to Blackpool culminating in the illuminations.
• Deeside ice rink; regular trips throughout the year are made by the children.
• A full day trip to Chester zoo was enjoyed by all the children , staff and volunteers.



The Adventure Playground was 40 years old in the summer 2015, a celebration took place on the 14th August 2016; the day was split into 2 separate events. During the day the celebrations took place on the 'Addy' for the children, this saw bouncy castles; lots of food! entertainment and a disco. Special thanks must go to LEASOWE COMMUNITY HOMES who sponsored the event in conjunction with the management committee. In the evening a celebration will take place in Leasowe Brambles (formerly The Oyster Catcher). The 'Oyster' played a very important part in the adventure playground over the years, if we think back to those days, a lot of money was raised by so many people who frequented the 'Oyster'. It is only right and fitting that the celebration takes place there. The night consisted of a buffet and disco for all the adults past and present.



On the day in August we saw a very special guest attend the celebrations, RORY HEAP and his wife Connie attended the celebrations. Rory who moved to Leasowe in 1973 as a Community Worker, he was the mainstay and driving force behind the formation of the current Management Committee. There were many old friends attended the event: Joan Cook (past Chair) Maureen Chapman; Barbara Heathcote; Lynn Williams; Ken Murphy (past Chair) Eric Wharton; John Davies; Lizzie Dunn (past Secretary) Tony Chilton; John Martin (Senior Community Worker); Mary Quigg (LCH) Peter Dunn. The whole day was a huge success despite the typical British weather! Thank you.
